Together in prayer and support for those affected by the Texas floods
Dear Baylor Family,
I am writing to you from Brisbane, Australia, where I am attending the Baptist World Congress, but my heart is back in Texas as I stay updated on the tragic flooding and heart-shattering loss of life along the Guadalupe River in the Texas Hill Country and in other areas of the state.
Brad and I spent several beloved summers as Christian camp counselors during our college years, and we are just heartbroken by the magnitude of this tragedy. We are praying endlessly for all the families who bear unimaginable grief over the loss of their children and family members, for the emergency personnel and first responders who have been working tirelessly and courageously in the area and for the communities devastated by this disaster.
Our Baylor Care Team in Student Life has been active and reached out to the 18 students from the Kerrville/Hunt/Ingram area to let them know we love and are praying for them and ensuring they have access to resources available to them through the University. For others who may need additional support, the Pastoral Care team in Spiritual Life and the Counseling Center, including telehealth services, are available for any student who may be in need. Resources for faculty and staff are available through our Employee Assistance Program.
Amidst our prayers, as a caring Christian community, we are all asking, how can we help? Our Bear Aid disaster relief team – which is part of Missions, Service and Public Life in Spiritual Life – is leading our Pray, Stay, Raise, Go approach. The focus at this time is on praying for all those impacted and giving to the relief efforts underway. You can learn more on the Baylor Missions website.
Even from across the world, I am reminded that distance does not diminish the deep bonds we share as a Baylor Family. In moments of tragedy and sorrow, we come together – in prayer, compassion and support. Our prayers are unceasing for the families and communities, response teams, our students and others as they walk through the difficult days ahead.
God, you are our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. (Psalm 46:1)
Sincerely,
Linda A. Livingstone, Ph.D.
